Kazuo Hirai Appointed As New Sony CEO And President

Posted on 1 Feb 2012 in Sony Ericsson

Since Sony Ericsson announced to drop the Ericsson from their name, they started making a lot of changes. One of the biggest changes we see so far is the appointment of a new President and CEO: Kazuo Hirai who replaced Howard Stringer. The latter will become a member in the Board of Directors as Chairman. His promotion is no surprise: recently he went to Sony Computer Entertainment Chairman from Executive Deputy President. So, after being the head of the Games Department he will be Chief Executive, starting April 1st.

After the news, Hirai started to talk about his plans and the companies. He said that he will grow the electronics business, referring to games and smart mobile as well as accelerating the innovation. That innovation is what allows big companies to create newer and better domains. Stringer tried to describe Hirai and said that he is no stranger to technology and he is focused on global achievements. Plus, Hirai is the best man for the position, being a very good speaker and innovative person. Sony had their part of success in the 80s and now they want to feel that thrill again. The dominated the market with the Walkman, but Samsung and Apple kind of left them behind with the iPod, Wii and XBOX platforms.
