Apple has filed a grievance with the International Trade Commission (ITC) and the U.S. District Court in Delaware alleging that HTC Corp has infringed on Apple’s iPhone patents that involve both hardware and user interfaces. “We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs. “We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.” Apple believes HTC has infringed on 20 total patents.

Apple is now deleting sexually stimulating content from its App Store. Philip W. Schiller, the head of worldwide product marketing at Apple, told the New York Times that “It came to a point where we were getting customer complaints from women who found the content getting too degrading and objectionable, as well as parents who were upset with what their kids were able to see.” The article also pointed out that the Sports Illustrated application that shows off bikini clad models has not been removed.

Dan Woolley, was caught under a pile of rubble when the Haiti earthquake hit. With the use of a first-aid app in his iPhone, he managed to create a tourniquet for his injured leg and bandage for his head. The instruction on the first-aid app also warned him against falling asleep after head trauma, so the phone was also used as an alarm which is set to go off every 20 minutes. He survived until rescue teams got him out after 65 hours and is reunited with his family.

New Yorkers observed that they weren’t able to obtain the iPhone from AT&T’s website last weekend, but as of today the phone is now available online. AT&T isn’t the only carrier under pressure with the amplified demands that smartphone owners are putting on wireless networks. Yesterday the Financial Times reported that O2, which also carries Apple’s iPhone, expressed regret to London smartphone owners after subscribers began complaining about the incapability to place phone calls occasionally during the second half of the year.

A new version of Google Mobile App for iPhone has been approved by Apple and is now available in the App Store. The new version brings some of the features talked about at Google’s mobile search media event. Voice search is improved with support for Japanese and Mandarin and has been updated to better support accents, too. For example, Australian expats living in London can improve speech recognition accuracy by indicating they are from Australia. Users can also style their app in different color schemes with the new version as well. The update to Google Mobile App for iPhone is available in the App Store.
