
Motorola partners with Microsoft to use the software giant’s Bing search and mapping services on its Google-powered Android smartphone. Christy Wyatt, corporate vice president of software and services at Motorola Mobile Devices, said “We believe that consumer choice is one of the most critical components to ensuring a rich and seamless client experience”, while Google CEO Eric Schmidt said at a media summit in Abu Dhabi, “We are in active negotiations with the Chinese government.”

Goldman Sachs told The Wall Street Journal that Google’s initial sales figures were down from the original 3.5 million in sales the firm first projected. Goldman Sachs attributed “limited marketing and customer service challenges,” to the lesser expected sales figure. “We forecast that Google sells 1.0 mn Nexus One units in FY2010, benefiting from US carriers other than T-Mobile, and non-US carriers such as Vodafone, promoting the device too, but suffering from limited marketing activity,” Goldman Sachs said.

Google has proclaimed the Buzz, a social networking tool that is built right into Gmail. The application allows photo sharing, as well as videos, links, and status updates much similar to the Twitter and Facebook. Google also announced Google Buzz for Mobile that supports aGPS so that users can ‘Buzz’ their community about their whereabouts, while a “Nearby” view shows the user the ‘Buzz’ that’s happening around him. Analyst Flurry Inc. said that Google sold 80,000 of its Android powered Nexus One smartphones during its first month on sale, while iPhone sold 600,000 units during its unveiling. Dow Jones Newswires points out that the low sales figures could also be a consequence of Google’s lack of Nexus One publicity, compared to the broad TV and Web ads for the Droid and the iPhone, or due to untimely issues linking its 3G connectivity and puzzlement over where consumers ought to set out for support.

Recently, Google has updated the Nexus One features by adding pinch-to-zoom that works with the gadget’s browser as well as with the Google Maps application. The update also includes Maps version 3.4 that enables users to view their favorite map locations from their phone just by marking them on maps.google.com. Also, a new night mode adjusts the screen for easier map viewing while driving in the dark.
The 3G issues that were reportedly encountered by the users of the Nexus One was also resolved, resulting to improved connectivity.
