Apple Wins Title Of “World’s Biggest Smartphone Maker”, Samsung Follows

Posted on 27 Jan 2012 in Apple, Samsung

2011 is over and smartphone companies present their numbers of sales for the 4th quarter. Today, Samsung reported their results and it seems that after winning the title of “the biggest smartphone maker” in the world in the 3rd quarter, they lost that title to Apple in the 4th quarter. The number of the shipped smartphones was somewhere around 27 million units.

Of course, these numbers are different from analyst to analyst and we’ll probably see a tight battle for the “number 1 smartphone maker” for the whole 2011, depending on how much analysts like better Apple or Samsung. These numbers could also indicate whether Samsung will surpass Nokia in 2012 or not. This will happen only if Nokia shipments will fall a lot this year. It’s a known fact that Samsung tries very hard to become number one in the industry and already said that in 2012 they’ll win that title. However, it will be very difficult for them since they have to compete with companies such as Apple and Nokia. Plus, it will be even harder for them since it is rumored that Apple is preparing to bring the iPhone 5 to the market this year and Nokia’s partnership with Windows Phone is also full of surprises and low cost for super-phones.
