The Associated Press reports that analysts look forward to Motorola to distribute 900,000 DROID smartphones in the quarter and that though DROID shipments are meeting expectations, problems with the CLIQ are affecting sales.
The Motorola CLIQ, launched with T-Mobile, is having problems on battery life, therefore causing T-Mobile to trim down marketing for the device, thus affecting sales. Oppenheimer analyst Ittai Kidron says that although the company is missing its shipping goals, the earnings will stay unaffected.

Samsung has announced the I8910 HD Gold Edition, a first-class edition of its touchscreen smartphone that features 24 karat gold inlay. The smartphone is runs on Symbian S60 5th Edition and Samsung’s TouchWiz UI with widget facility. It includes an 8.0 megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording capability, as well as a 3.7-inch AMOLED display.
The Samsung I8910 HD Gold Edition will be available this month in brown or champagne colors in Singapore, Germany and the Middle East. However, details on pricing have not yet been disclosed.

Nokia plans to launch no more than one Maemo-powered smartphone in 2010. A Nokia insider said that the company remains loyal to its Symbian operating system. Nokia’s stand has not changed since August when it canceled reports that said that the company would commence focusing on Maemo as its flagship operating system. Nokia began shipping its first Maemo-powered smartphone, the Nokia N900, earlier this month. The handset became available in U.S. flagship stores mid-November.

Lenovo is set to acquire the mobile division that it turned off last 2008 for $200 million in cash and stock. The move is expected to develop mobile Internet devices. The manufacturer will repurchase Lenovo Mobile for twice what it sold it for to a group of private investors last year, when the company decided it wanted to refocus on its PC business. Lenovo is hoping to tap into the growing market of mobile devices in China and worldwide. Lenovo Mobile has already introduced an Android based smartphone for China Mobile’s OPhone smartphone line.

The Sony Ericsson Aino smartphone is plagued with customer complaint due to some software issues that involve the use of its touchscreen feature. Spokesman Mattias Holm explained Sony Ericsson is running as swiftly as possible to secure the matter. Meanwhile, the Sony Ericsson Satio smartphone was also removed from some mobile phone shops in the UK because of a malfunction that causes the phone to power off unexpectedly. Geoff Blaber, analyst from CCS Insight told Reuters that these issues couldn’t come at a worse time. “Aino and Satio are Sony Ericsson’s key products for the final quarter,” Blaber said.
