Acer disclosed that the company is set to use the Google Android platform on its upcoming smartphone models. After trying to collaborate with 40 mobile operators to offer 10 of their new smartphone models, Aymar de Lencquesaing of Acer said, “We’re in discussions with all of them. To date none of them has said ‘thanks, but no thanks, and never come back,’” .

Acer’s purchase of Eten Information Systems last year enabled the company to penetrate the smartphone market, and during the WMC ‘09 was able to exhibit its very first phone. Meanwhile, major mobile phone carriers like Samsung, Motorola and Huawei plan to launch Android devices later this year.
