Barack Obama suggested that a spectrum license fees should be remitted by the wireless network carriers as well as the spectrum holders during the $3.9 trillion budget announcement. This, according to the President, is one way of battling the country’s deficit by the year 2013. However, the suggestion would still undergo Congress’ rigid deliberation. Also, carriers such as Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint Nextel, and T-Mobile said they are not in a position to comment on the proposal.

The move is estimated to raise $4.8 billion over the next 10 years.
