It has been reported by the Associated Press that Cox Communications, a known cable company, is planning to launch its own mobile phone network. Although nothing has been official yet, Cox has already shelled out over a half billion dollars to get a wireless spectrum license. The Associated Press has further reported that Cox will build out its personal regional network and will depend on Sprint for roaming.
Going back to the 90’s, Cox Communications has already ran a network in Southern California and Las Vegas that was eventually acquired by Sprint. Therefore, this is not the initial situation where the company is going to own and operate a wireless network.
