Palm, a long-time player in the mobile phone scene, has had its share of both the good and the negative. Talks about being less innovative than its industry counterparts have loomed around the fast-paced telecommunications atmosphere. But, Palm is not to be intimidated.

This time around, the news that’s brewing is about something big that is set to come out of Palm’s stable – the new Palm Treo 800w, also known as “Zeppelin.”

Although somewhat far from confirmed, the new Treo is a CDMA 800 smartphone that operates on a Windows-based platform, specifically Windows Mobile 6.1. A processing speed of 333 mhz is churned out from its still unspecified TI processor, and it has support for EVDO Rev. A, GPS, Bluetooth, Infrared, and/or Wi-Fi.

The Palm Treo 800w’s 320 x 320 pixel display is a touch-sensitive LCD screen, and its 2.0 megapixel camera has an automatic light balance feature and a native resolution of 1600 x 1200. Upfront is an integrated QWERTY keyboard with a 5-way navigator. Other notable spec items include a microUSB plug, external antenna port, microSD/SDHC expansion slot, and a rechargeable Li-Ion battery.

Palm’s release date for the new Treo is also a subject of varying rumors, but it’s most likely going to be sometime late June or July, with retail price playing around $250.
