Motorola’s MING series of Linux-OS based handsets may not be sold outside of China, but there they apparently sell like the proverbial hot cakes.  GSMArena has found images of the latest touchscreen MING, the A1600, which has GPS, WiFi and a 3-megapixel autofocus camera.

It also has the usual transparent clamshell cover and is fully stylus-controlled; things should move a little faster than before, too, as the A1600 apparently has a faster processor than its A1200 predecessor. No word on availability or price from Motorola yet.

Today Alltel Wireless and U.S. Cellular announced availability of the Motorola Q 9c on their networks. This is the same basic Q 9c that has been available for some time on Sprint. On top of the basic black version that they will be offering, Alltel and U.S. Cellular will both be offering the new Q 9c Lime - a bright green version of the popular smartphone.

The Windows Mobile smartphone may have a full QWERTY keyboard and 2.4-inch display, but it’ll be the vivid colour that everyone is looking at.  If you’re not so bold, but still fancy a 1.3-megapixel fixed-focus camera with flash, 128MB of onboard memory and support for microSD cards up to 32GB in size, you’ll be relieved to hear that they’re making a far more sober Licorice (black to you and I) version, which you can see after the cut.

While US Cellular are yet to reveal pricing details, Alltel will eventually sell you either the Lime or Licorice Q9c for $99.99 after a wretched $100 mail-in rebate, assuming you sell them your cellular soul for a two-year contract.  The handsets are expected to launch this Summer.

Verizon intros BlackBerry Curve with 3G, GPS

The smartphone is the first Curve capable of 3G by using the carrier’s EVDO network and adds all the improvements of the 8310 used on GSM phone networks, highlighted by the native GPS receiver: the device can either use Verizon’s own VZ Navigator for driving directions or an alternate solution for mapping. Research in Motion’s updated BlackBerry also brings a 2-megapixel camera, a native 3.5mm headphone jack, and an externally accessible microSDHC card slot for up to 8GB of storage. In Verizon trim, the 8330 will be available solely in silver and uses a slightly customized version of RIM’s standard BlackBerry interface while supporting all the typical third-party software, including a native Facebook app.

Verizon hasn’t set an exact release date but notes that the phone will sell for $270 with a two-year plan; pricing goes down further with special calling and data plans.
