Alltel unveiling a new feature that uses voice-recognition software to allow wireless phone customers to read their voicemail messages as text messages. An intelligent voice recognition program, the feature based on SpinVox automatically converts voicemail into individual text messages to let users check missed calls without having to use the phone’s speaker. This can be ideal for businesspeople who may need to check messages but would rather not disrupt a meeting, says Alltel senior VP Wade McGill. Voice2TXT pricing varies by the number of conversions and starts at $5 per month for 20 messages; $20 a month converts 100 messages. The feature is available immediately and requires that users reset their voicemail to expose the option with their existing plan.
