AT&T has announced a partnership with eMusic to expand the carrier’s Mobile Music service, adding a catalog of 2.7 million songs from the independent music retailer to complement the services already offered in conjunction with Yahoo! Music and Napster. Users will be able to browse, preview, and purchase songs from their handset, with a DRM-free copy of the song sent to the device and made available for download to a PC.

Unlike many other music services, tracks from eMusic Mobile are made available free from DRM restrictions and in the MP3 file format. AT&T customers will be able to subscribe to the service for US$7.49 per month for up to five track downloads.
The eMusic Mobile service through AT&T is currently compatible with the Samsung a717, a727, and new versions of the SYNC music phone, as well as the Nokia N75. AT&T report that compatibility will be expanded to many other devices in the future
